Samsung’s long-awaited One UI 7 upgrade has finally been extensively sent out to Galaxy smartphones, delivering a slew of new features, design changes, and performance improvements. However, not everything is going nicely for everyone. A significant number of customers are experiencing a substantial loss in battery life after the upgrade, particularly those using the newest Galaxy S24 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
What’s the Problem?
Since the update impacted smartphones in recent weeks, consumers have gone to venues such as Samsung’s community forums, Reddit, and Android Police to express their worries about increased battery consumption. One Z Fold 6 customer reported a dramatic decline in daily battery performance, falling from roughly 45% remaining at the end of the day to around 20% after the upgrade. Similar reports have emerged across other smartphones, notably the Galaxy S24 range.

This isn’t a fringe issue either—while it’s not yet prevalent enough to cause panic, there are obviously enough users observing the shift to raise concerns. However, it’s also crucial to realise that these claims are primarily anecdotal, and for every complaint, there appears to be another user reporting their battery life remained the same.
What Could Be Causing It?
The actual source of the battery difficulties is difficult to pinpoint. One UI 7 is a significant upgrade with several improvements behind the hood. A system-wide revamp might result in a variety of short or long-term inefficiencies. Background processes, new features, and even unoptimised code may all be contributory issues.
It’s worth noting that the update was delayed for some time before its release, and while Samsung never publicly explained why, it’s not impossible that battery optimization was one of the reasons. Again, this is guesswork, but it gets you thinking.
Is It Just a Vocal Minority?
That is the major question. So yet, the number of impacted consumers appears to be tiny in comparison to the millions of devices that have already gotten the update. This might just be an instance of a loud minority being more proactive in reporting concerns early on. Some Galaxy S23 owners have reported that they have seen no change—or that their battery life has improved slightly—since the update.
It’s also possible that this is a temporary problem. Major upgrades frequently take several days to “settle,” as the system re-indexes applications and optimizes battery use in the background. Many users may see improvements over time, or after a few full charge cycles.
What Can You Do About It?
If you’re noticing worse battery life since upgrading to One UI 7, there are a few things you can try:
- Check for rogue apps: Some apps may behave differently after the update. Use the battery usage stats in your phone’s settings to look for culprits.
- Clear the cache partition: This can help after a big system update and doesn’t delete personal data.
- Disable background activity for non-essential apps until things stabilize.
- Submit feedback to Samsung through the Samsung Members app. The more people who report the issue, the more likely it is to be addressed.

What’s Next?
As with many early post-update difficulties, patience may be the best answer. Samsung normally releases monthly patches with bug fixes and optimizations, and we may see improvements in battery performance in a forthcoming version. If the problem remains, Samsung may formally fix it in a future software update.
