Google is preparing to introduce Gemini to Android Auto, though it hasn’t gone live yet. Android Auto 14.0 is now rolling out, offering clues that Gemini is close. After a beta release earlier this month, the stable version is now available on the Play Store. The full rollout will take a few weeks, but it has started.

However, don’t rush to install the update just yet. While there’s some behind-the-scenes work, no visible changes have been observed for users at this stage.

About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we’ve decompiled the latest version of an app that Google uploaded to the Play Store. By decompiling these files (APKs for Android apps), we can uncover lines of code that suggest potential upcoming features. It’s important to note that Google may or may not release these features, and our understanding of them might not be completely accurate. We’ll focus on features that seem closer to completion, showcasing how they might look if they are released. Keep reading for more details.

What’s new in Android Auto 14.0?

The latest Android Auto 14.0 update offers more indications that Gemini will replace Google Assistant in the system. It includes image assets for both Gemini and Gemini Live, along with additional code lines related to the new experience.

A new message in the app informs users that “Gemini is now the personal AI assistant in your car,” signaling that Google plans to fully replace Assistant with Gemini. This aligns with Google’s earlier announcement that Assistant will be phased out on smartphones later this year. The update also introduces new prompts for surveys and feedback related to Gemini.

  • <string name=”assistant_education_tooltip_gemini_upgrade”>Gemini is now the personal AI assistant in your car</string>
  • <string name=”assistant_summarization_quick_feedback_prompt”>How was the message summary content?</string>
  • <string name=”csat_survey_question_gemini”>How satisfied were you with Gemini in Android Auto today?</string>
  • <string name=”csat_survey_question_voice_subjourney”>What was your primary goal for using voice interaction in Android Auto today? Select the task that had the biggest impact on your satisfaction.</string>
  • <string name=”gemini_quick_feedback_prompt”>How was your Gemini experience?</string>

To clarify, none of these features are live yet. We installed the latest update and tested it in a vehicle with Android Auto, but Gemini is not available at this time. There are also no settings to adjust.

However, it’s clear that Google is nearing the final stages of preparing this update. This is especially evident since Gemini experiences can be manually activated, showing that they are functional.

The timeline for a full release, though, is still uncertain.
