A Supermoon is formed when a full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it look larger and brighter than usual. The moon’s orbit around Earth is an ellipse rather than a perfect circle, therefore the distance between the two changes during the month. A Supermoon occurs when the moon is closest to Earth (known as perigee) and is also full.
When to see a Supermoon?
In 2024, there will be several Supermoons. Here are the dates.
1. August 19, 2024: The first Supermoon of the year.
2. September 18, 2024: Another supermoon appears in the sky, this time larger and brighter.
3. October 17, 2024: The last Supermoon of the year.

The year’s first blue supermoon will be visible in the UAE sky on Monday, August 19. Expected to happen around 8 PM, it will be visible for three days! In fact, this is the first seasonal blue moon.
