A recent report reveals that Huawei smartphone users worldwide are delighted as they can now access Google apps. How? Despite US sanctions, certain third-party apps have made this possible.
According to Nikkei Asia, many Huawei users can run Google apps in global markets. Retailers in cities like Bangkok have reported selling new Huawei phones with Chrome and Gmail pre-installed. The list of supported devices includes the Mate X6.

A retailer staff member stated:
“Many Chinese tourists buy these devices. While Google services are banned in mainland China, they work if the phones are connected to a VPN.”
A similar trend was seen in Dubai, where a home electronics store promoted Huawei phones with Google Maps pre-installed. According to the staff, users can unofficially download Google apps on global Huawei phones through a third-party service.
Meanwhile, retail clerks in Hong Kong mentioned that even if Google apps are not pre-installed on new Huawei phones, users can still download them through Huawei’s app store.
Google apps can only be used on Huawei phones through unofficial methods or third-party applications. The Chinese tech giant has not found a legal way to access Google apps, as it is focusing on its own solution with native HarmonyOS.
Before the ban, Huawei phones had full access to Google Mobile Services (GMS) as an official Google partner, allowing them to run the complete Android OS. However, this changed when the U.S. imposed sanctions on the company.

Following the ban, Huawei was restricted from using advanced foreign technologies and conducting business with American companies like Google. This meant it could no longer pre-install Google Play services or apps on its devices.
Things took a turn in 2023 with the launch of the Mate 60 series. Now, Huawei is focused on reclaiming its position in the global smartphone market, powered by Kirin 5G and innovative new products.
