With Android 15, Google is introducing advanced anti-theft features to safeguard your personal information on Pixel devices. These new features, such as Identity Check and Theft Detection Lock, aim to improve security with AI and biometric identification.
1. Identity Check: Biometric Safeguards
The new Identity Check function keeps your phone and apps secure, even in unsecured circumstances. If you take your phone outside of a secure environment, it will require biometric authentication—such as a fingerprint or face scan—to unlock apps like Chrome or use features like password autofill. This provides an additional layer of security in case a thief discovers your PIN or password. Identity Check will also trigger for key setting changes, such as removing theft protection or changing your PIN, to ensure sensitive information remains locked.

2. Theft Detection Lock with AI-Powered Security Google’s
Theft Detection Lock detects if your phone has been stolen, such as when it is taken and swiftly moved away. The phone will automatically lock to prevent thieves from accessing your info. Remote locking and Failed Authentication Lock are two additional security mechanisms that activate after numerous failed login attempts via the BiometricPrompt API.
3. Enhanced SIM Protection and Find My Device
Android 15 also increases security for SIM removal and Find My Device settings, requiring biometrics to make any changes. These enhancements aim to make stolen phones more difficult to reset and sell.
